I had to share this picture of Barney with you. He sits in the window and looks out (and sleeps) while I work on my jewelry or on the computer. That's his spot. Well, today I noticed that his nose was all smushed up against the window and I just laughed, it looked so funny! Luckily, I was able to snap a picture of it (with my new camera that I'm still undecided about, but more on that later). I had to share it, it's so funny. He has a pointy nose anyway, but I had no idea it bent like this!!
I'm slowly trying to get back into the swing of things. We're going to the mountains for Easter so hopefully I'll have some good pictures to share. I hope anyway. The camera does well outdoors, but not so good indoors. I've been struggling trying to take pics of my jewelry with it too. It's not at all what I thought it would be. I did take a really cool shot of the pearls in four handknotted pearl bracelets I finished for a custom request.
The pearls came from my favorite bead store, Beadlush, here in Charlotte. They have the most awesome pearls as you can see. They always come through for me, but I can't say that for the camera so far. It's the one I said I wanted, the Canon S5 IS. But it takes lousy pictures at ISO 200 or above due to so much noise in the pictures, so taking indoor shots is quite challenging. I've tried keeping the ISO at 80 or 100 and still I don't know if I'm too happy with it. It does great macros except for the shadow that the lens casts around the subject.
That's it for now. I will leave you with a picture of a my newest favorite pair of earrings I created this week. They are bright aqua chalcedony with multi circles in goldfill. I just love them. This picture was taken using my good ol' Olympus. I still love that camera, but don't love the spots it makes, the slowness of it or the lower resolution. I'm just really torn now on what to do. Well, here they are.
And on that I will say to you all, Happy Easter!! May the Big Bunny himself leave lots of Cadbury Eggs in your basket!!

I hear you on the camera! I just got a new one and like you, am undecided about it.
Sigh.
Ohhhh look at those pearls - I think I'm coming to stay - our local bead shop is full of gemstone chips and plated findings :(
And you get Cadburys over there too - I actually have a Lindt Bunny waiting for me ;)
Good to see you back.
and Good luck with the camera.
Hi Ginger.
I also have the S5 IS. I've been playing with it for three months, now, and its really starting to grow on me.
As time goes by, I do better with taking photos that don't blur. I find that movement is bad indoors.. I feel like its doing its auto adjusting for light compensation and that delays the shot.. and if I move the camera down (like I'm finished) it almost always blurs.
I hate the flash on it.
I'm just starting to notice, though, that the view on the camera is not as reliable to tell me that the photo is good. I've retaken shots to later learn that the original was fine, on its own.
I don't have a tripod. I'm hoping to take better stills in the future.
I bought an 8gb memory card for it, from Tiger Direct. I took it to Florida and took a lot of photos.. to find that the card isn't capable of being read.. It doesn't work. I Paid $40 for it. I though it was such a steal.. ha ha I just ran into the receipt and I'm discouraged that they have a "30 days from shipment date" or something like that return policy.
I was thinking that the battery life in the camera would make me crazy. I lost one of my rechargeable batteries in a friend's van, so I'm ripping through Energizer's right now.
The last set of batteries seemed to last longer than they have in the past.
When I bought my new sewing machine, last year, I thought I was spoiled. Now, with the camera, I think it could get together with my sewing machine and make dinner.
I need to be taught how to use it, now. There are local bloggers, here, that meet to teach/learn their camera's. Most are seasoned photographers going digital, though.. so I feel very intimidated.
Hope you enjoyed your weekend. I miss the mountains.
I've been busy spring cleaning, all week. It all looks good but the pains are catching up with me.
I lost my ear rings you made. I've never worn them. I'm just sick about this. I'm hoping to "run into them."
Hugz,
~Heidi
