Kevin & Me

I've seen so many self-portraits on Flicker and I always say to myself, "Ain't no way in heck I'm ever gonna do that!" Basically because I don't want my ol' mug up there for all the world to see! It was one thing when I was a little more youthful, even 5 years ago! But now, since I've had Kevin and since I have no more hormones, well, let's just say that the gray just gets grayer and the wrinkles just get wrinklier! So now I have this thing about seeing myself in pictures. I just don't care for it too much. I just don't care for it a lot actually!

Now having said that, what do you think I did today? Right! I took a self-portrait of me and Kevin and put it on Flickr for all the world to see!! HA! We had major fun doing it! I took a ton of pictures, most of which turned out yucky, or blurry, or the lighting was too dark or too bright, or he made faces in them, etc. But this one, well, this one was ok. (I liked it because it didn't show my double chin thanks to Kevin's head!)

Kevin & me, originally uploaded by msbellee.

He looked cute with his little close-mouthed grin and bedhead, and I had the same grin on my face while looking at his grin. I was thinking "you're such a cutie." It's funny to see us both smiling the same way. He was just plain silly during the whole thing though!

That's it. Just wanted to share our self-portrait day with you all. Hope you got a kick out of it! We did!

Hi Ginger, ooooh you're gorgeous!! I hadn't seen many pics of you so it was a thrill to see your pics. Beautiful shorts, love the black and white collage you got going there!

Bravo! I won't do a self portrait. Not because of my age - I'm 48, but I'm not comfortable with my weight. And my kids are too old to hide my chin(s) - "oh stop it Mom - don't be so vain!" Sigh-h-h.

Does having such a young child keep you feeling young? Cause I'm not sure I could do it full time now. Cudos to you!

Oh, gosh, thanks you guys. You won't see many of these, that's for sure!!!

BetteJo, actually NO!! Having a wee one at this age makes me feel reeeeeeeeeally old!!! I was already banged up before he got here, having blown out my left ACL in my knee in 1996 and have had a bad back since 1988. Let's just say that he keeps me on my toes, but I can't keep up with him! I'd had dogs all my adult life, dachshunds. Those I was used to! Kids, no way!! But that said, I wouldn't trade him for the world!

First of all - congrats on breaking 200! That is so exciting!
And even more importantly - glad to hear Kevin is healthy and doing well in school.

And then I have to say - You GORGEOUS thing! I LOVE the longer hair. Love, love, love it! The photo collage is so sweet and your wonderful spirit shines through in every picture. Fabulous!

Oh my goodness, thanks you guys! But I certainly wouldn't go that far! You're all very sweet but like I told Amanda up there, ain't no way I'm gorgeous! You just aren't getting a good close-up view!! One of these days I'll post a picture of how things *used* to look before I got old and gray!

Thank you for my award.
Just having you visit my blog makes my day!

I don't know if this is okay, to leave this as a comment on a blog, but I feel I have a bit of wisdom to share in this area, people can take it or leave it.

We never see our own beauty, even a lot super models have a difficult time focusing on their beauty instead of their flaws.
It takes practise and discipline.
But our children, they see everything, our flaws and awkardness, they still love us. Adore us, notice us and tell us we are beautiful (sometimes they tell us our flaws too!) and they are being totally truthful.
I used to hide in the photos, or grab the camera and be the one taking the picture, but I had this epithany one day as I was throwing out bad pictures...
What am I leaving my kids?
A simple photo of me in all my ugly glory could bring back a flood of positive emotions after I'm gone.
It could change their day, make them more secure, more comfortable with themselves as people, parents, spouses, bosses, employees.
You see, it isn't our right to judge our appearance in the face of such love and adoration.
So hurrah for our double chins and acne in middle age and our fat butts. All I see is love, pure and simple and unfethered by something as meaningless as our outward appearance.
(I will always throw away photos of me eating though. lol! )

I forgot to ask if you could send me this picture of you both?
I love the collage too.
You could email them if it would be alright.
