A Sick Day and Some New Jewelry

sick day, originally uploaded by msbellee.

OK. I did it again. I jinxed the poor boy.

Two weeks to the day since he was declared better by the ENT and the second CT scan, he is once again sick. Stuffy/runny nose, sore throat, cough. The good thing is there is no fever so it's hopefully just a cold. But it's enough to make me want to keep my mouth shut about his health for the rest of his life!!!

He slept until about 12:00 p.m. When he got up he did not want to eat. He would only drink warm tea with honey, some water, a little milk, and he ate a partial bowl of Apple Jacks. Didn't finish those though. So he went the rest of the day lounging around watching TV, playing with his toy cars, and finally he said he wanted to string some beads.

I gave him a long strand of temporarily strung pearls that he'd given me for Chirstmas and set him up with some beading wire. He strung pearls for a good while as he watched TV and blew his nose. Then, as with all things for a 6 year old, he eventually got bored after a while. He strung a good bit though. I doubt he'll finish it any time soon. I like for him to string beads more for his hand-eye coordination than anything. Although he did string an entire necklace one time with my supervision and I still have it. I'll always keep it. I'll photograph it and show it to you sometime.

The poor boy just cannot stay well. He's only been off of the antibiotic for 2 weeks. He can't very well stay on them the rest of his life though, but I have no clue what to do. Is his immune system still so compromised that even just the smallest passing bug will attack him? It's so disheartening and discouraging. And he cried when he started blowing, like he new what was coming next.

Luckily this time there is no fever. That's what makes me think it's a cold. But we'll see. I'll update his progress here. (Well, maybe not. The more I speak of his health (it seems) the more I jinx him. And it's pretty boring news actually.)

I made just a few new earrings that I'll be adding to my shop when I can. Here's a collage of them for you to see.

Collage301sz

Included here is the second and last pair of whopper prasiolite earrings. These are 17.65 carats total weight and measure 9.8x34mm for the briolettes themselves and 1 7/8 inches in height (around 48mm). These are truly gorgeous stones and a stunning pair of earrings. They are whoppers!

There is also a plump pair of smoky quartz briolette earrings in goldfill as well as a smaller pair of prasiolite earrings in sterling silver. There's a pretty pair of pink amethyst puffed diamond briolette earrings. I hung those on goldfilled marquise shapes that I hammered for texture. (They're so, so pretty but I can't for the life of me get a good picture of them!) Also, there are two pairs of peachy-pink pearl earrings, one short, one long, that are hung on twisted circle rings. I have one strand of these pearls (which have the highest luster I've ever seen) so I will be able to make quite a few pairs if they sell. (If not, I'll make a necklace or something with them.) The customer will have their choice of earwires. All these will be available in my shop soon! :)

That's it for now. I just wanted to stop in a say hello and let everyone know that today was a sick day. Although he's not as sick as he was with his sinus infection, I always worry that it will lead us back down that path.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Until next time....

Can you give him decongestants at night to help prevent future sinus infections developing? It seemed to help with my daughter and ear infections and with myself and sinus infections.

Sorry to hear about Kevin again. Hope he gets better really soon. Sending healthy vibes (even though people around me are ill too)! Meanwhile your new earrings are gorgeous! I especially love the marquise briolettes! :)

Oh, Ginger, I so know that feeling of dread you get in the pit of your stomach when your child gets sick, especially when they've had the kind of winter Kevin's had! Crossing my fingers it's a simple head cold.

I'm very prone to sinus infections myself and my doctor recommended that I use saline nose spray daily to just kind of keep my sinuses clean and moist (that sounds kinda gross, now that I've written it out...). It does help. So does a neti pot (when you're in the throes of an infection), though I'm not sure I'd recommend it for a 6 year old!

I did join that My Kid's Art group on Flickr. Thanks for the heads up! :-)

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I'll try all of them!!!

Kirsten, he does have a decongestant. It's called C-Phen something or other. It's prescription. I stopped giving it to him after his nose seemingly got better about 3 weeks ago, before he went back for his CT scan. He hadn't needed it. I don't know whether to give it to him on an ongoing basis or not. He's already taking Zyrtec, Singulair and Flonase. I'll ask the doctor.

Ann, we do shoot saline spray, both of us do. It's so dry this time of year. We also run a humidifier. I've tried just about everything. I hope it's just a cold.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate it. :D

Do you think he has allergies? I used to get sinus infections a lot and it turned out that I had seasonal allergies. (Doesn't everyone who moves to Georgia eventually develop them? lol) Once I knew that, it was easy to do some preventative maintenance and keep the infections at bay.

Also, before I knew that, the other thing that kept me from getting sick was exercising. It improves your immune system tremendously, which keeps you healthy. I know, so odd, but it works! So maybe you can get him involved in a sport if he's not already?

Yazmin, that's good to know! He has been wanting to take a martial arts class, so I was thinking that if I can make enough money on Etsy I might could get him enrolled in one! Also, I want him to take swimming lessons too at the 'Y' down the street. As far as allergies, he was tested the same day he had his first CT scan. Even though it showed he wasn't allergic to whatever if was they tested for, I'm convinced he has them. Although, that's what the Zyrtec and Flonase are for. The Singulair is more an asthma medication, but they give it in cases like his in order to open up the airways.

I appreciate it! And I appreciate you stopping by!

Oh. I thought I left a comment. I didn't. I signed the guestbook and didn't realize that the picture I attached would be so BIG - and I can't remove it. Sigh-h-h-h.

It looks scary.

There. I signed again and left a picture of a bracelet! You can remove the picture of my silver hair and eyes *ahem* any time you'd like.

Please? :)

Bettejo, I kinda like seeing someone else with hair the same color as mine for a change!!! Hehe! I'll try to go in and delete it if you really, really want me to!
