It's Out!!

It happened! Kevin lost his first tooth today! What a thrill!

He came running in to me at the computer yelling "Mommy, it stuck to my chewing gum!!" He was so excited! I gave him a great big hug and told him, "Congratulations, Kevin! Now you'll get to put it under your pillow for the tooth fairy!" I grabbed my camera and took pictures, and then called Granny so he could tell her all about it.

I was wondering, with inflation and higher prices for everything these days, what is a tooth worth to the tooth fairy nowadays? Kevin thinks he's going to get about $100 for his tooth! (I don't think so!) I told him I was sure the tooth fairy would be very generous since he's such a sweet boy, but that I didn't believe it would be $100. He said, "well then maybe $50." Well, since he has no concept of money yet, I told him that was probably more like it

So tonight for the first time the tooth fairy will come visit Kevin. In his sleep he will become one of generations of little fellows who have experienced what it's like to lose a tooth and get rewarded for it. I know I can't remember losing my first tooth, but Kevin will never forget it. Thanks to the digital age of cameras and blogging, he has it all recorded. And his experience is here for the whole world to share too!

(When the tooth fairy gets word of this, I'm sure she'll be on her way, lickety-split!)

When I was a kid my mother had us put our teeth in a pan under the dining room table. The next day, there would be a quarter in its place.

We always wondered how come we couldn't do the whole pillow thing like everybody else. Later on when we asked her what that was all about, she said she didn't want to come in and have to rummage around in our beds looking for a tooth -- crawling under the dining room table was an easier task for her apparently!

My kids are too young to have lost any teeth yet, but my stepdaughter lost a couple while visiting us from time to time and wouldn't you know it: I told her to put them in a pan under the dining room table. She's 16 now. I'm still waiting for her to ask me what the heck I was thinking. Now that I'm a mommy myself, I can't imagine doing it any other way.

Congrats to your little boy! I hope he's happy with his loot in the a.m.

Annie, I love your story. That's so sweet.

When I was a kid, I had a little pillow shaped/painted like the tooth fairy, with a little pocket on the front. I'd put my tooth in there, and when I woke up there'd be a quarter.

Though by my last tooth, I do think I was getting a dollar, so inflation does seem to play a role.

I'm very curious to see how much the tooth fairy leaves for Kevin. $5 seems about right to me, but really I haven't a clue.

Well, the tooth fairy came to me last night and asked for change for a 5. Since I had no change, Kevin ended up with $5. Needless to say, that was a larger amount than originally intended. From now on, the going rate will probably be $1, and the tooth fairy will make sure there is always change on hand!

Congratulations Kevin!
What a cute little boy, now is the time for him to learn the value of money....soon you'll be sending him to "My Money Game" blog......hehehe

I think the tooth fairy did just fine leaving him $5.00. Good going mom!

btw.....your jewery is just beautiful and I'm so happy to see you selling it on Etsy.

I tried making and selling crocheted items but never sold anything there because most times I gave it away before I could even get it listed. :)

Yay, Congrats, Kevin! Lucky boy his mom didn't have change for the fairy! Nothing wrong with a little bonus for the first one, right? :)

I have a vague but happy memory of my little pillow with the pocket on it. It is kind of a goofy thing...I wonder if the tooth fairy visits kids in other countries. I think I'll go ask in the Etsy forums. :)

I'm glad he took it in his stride: I found losing my first tooth (while eating an apple) very traumatic!

I think he did very well with 5 dollars!
