the face says it all...

the face says it all..., originally uploaded by msbellee.

The first day of kindergarten:
anxious, nervous, excited, apprehensive...

Oh, my dear Kevin,
what adventures await you my sweetpea.

~~~~~
We got up quite early this morning.
Earlier than ever before,
although we've been practicing for this day.
He ate his breakfast.
I made and packed his lunch.
He proceeded to get dressed.
getting ready for school
Bedhead as usual....
terrible bedhead
Barney knew something was different about today.
Not the normal routine. He was anxious and concerned.
Barney knows something's different about today...
We're going to miss our Kevin while he's
off to his first day of school.
Barney looks so sad
I told him to mind his manners,
and to remember to say the magic words:
'please' and 'thank you'.
I told him to make sure he shared.
I reminded him that he should treat people
the way he would want to be treated.
I told him to raise his hand if he had a question...
...and I told him I loved him.
And off he went,
escorted out of the car by a school aid,
his lunch sack over his shoulder
and his little backpack in his hand...
...and he didn't even look back.
I cried.
Many tears later, I'm still crying.
I miss him.
Barney misses him.
It's way too quiet.
I'm lonesome already.
But I have to get us ready to go to the beach today
so I don't have a lot of time to cry.
Today, distraction is a good thing.
I can't wait to hear how it went.
I'm sure he'll say "it was just fine."
:)
It is a big step for him and for us being a mum. I am sure he will be O.K. Have confidence in him, he will gather his inner resources and sail it through....
lots of hugs from us!
it's the start of a new journey, but you'll still be making it together - just with new and separate insights
Oh, Ginger! I am sure he had a good day. Such a sweet post. It is so hard to watch them go without a backward glance (my daughter did the same thing on her first day of preschool) it is so sad that that is our job - getting them ready and able for all these little leaps.
I hope you had a wonderful time at the beach - made all the more special by this start of kindergarten!
And he's off!
Off to conquer the world!
I am so glad this little fella has you to figure out his days at school with.
I know this is bittersweet for you, you have my thoughts.
What a great post. You brought tears to my eyes. I went through the exact same thing with John. We just put him in Pre-K, last week. Was tough! Really tough!
You are a terrific mom. Thank you for sharing.
Great post ginger!
So, how was the first day?
Thank you all. He's a pro at it now after only a week.
Katie, it went ok. I cried most of the day. But since I had to get us packed I didn't really sob too much. We had a good time at the beach and he's having a good time in school so far. :)
I remember crying the first days my little ones went off...it was a happy cry for them and a sad cry for me. One more to go off to school and I know she will be the hardest one to see go...she will be my last and I already dread when that day will come.
